Rockwool is a Danish manufacturer of stone wool insulation - thermal and acoustic insulation from melted volcanic rock. Founded in 1937, present across Europe and North America.
Why stone wool instead of EPS or glass wool? Rockwool stone wool has three clear advantages over polystyrene foam: it doesn't burn (fire class A1), it insulates acoustically (foam doesn't stop sound), and it allows vapour diffusion (the wall breathes). Compared to glass wool - higher density and rigidity, better suited for vertical applications and where mechanical loads are present.
At Colorista.md: Rockwool slabs for exterior walls (ETICS systems), slabs for partition walls and ceilings (acoustic), rolls for roofs. Products certified to European standards.
Before ordering - check the product density. Not all Rockwool slabs are the same. 30-40 kg/m3 slabs for roofing, 50-80 kg/m3 for exterior walls, 100+ kg/m3 for technical floors or under screed.
Stone wool slabs and rolls for wall, roof and floor insulation, acoustic insulation solutions. Updated catalogue on the website.
Rockwool stone wool has a higher melting point (over 1000°C) - better fire resistance than glass wool. Higher density, more rigid - easier to install vertically (walls). Glass wool is cheaper and sufficient for many roof applications.
Thickness depends on your building's thermal performance requirements. In Moldova, for energy saving compliance - minimum 100mm for walls, 150-200mm recommended. Check with your designer for the specific building.
Yes, stone wool has good acoustic absorption properties. Rockwool slabs in partition walls or ceilings significantly reduce sound transmission. Rockwool also has dedicated lines optimised for acoustic performance.
Rockwool stone wool has good moisture resistance - it doesn't degrade in contact with water and dries without losing its properties. It's not a vapour barrier - that's installed separately according to the design.
