Tired of plain painted walls? Decorative finishes change how a room feels - and they are more accessible than most people think.

Colorista.md carries two main families of decorative products. Decorative effect paints are applied with a special roller or spatula and create surface textures - silk effect, metallic, satin pearl. Decorative plasters give more pronounced three-dimensional texture, visible from across a room.

The main types we stock: venetian stucco - thin layers of fine plaster applied in circular strokes with a steel trowel, creating a marble-like finish, popular for living rooms and bedrooms in classic or contemporary elegant styles. Structured plaster - visible grain texture, rustic feel, great for hallways, facades and Provencal-style interiors. Concrete effect - matte, industrial, popular in open-plan kitchens, lofts and modern offices. Mineral mosaic - coloured quartz granules, durable on facades and semi-wet areas.

Matching effect to interior style: minimalist modern - concrete effect or venetian in grey tones. Classic - venetian with pearl pigment. Rustic/Provencal - structured in ochres and beige. Industrial loft - concrete-effect or coarse-grain plaster.

Decorative finishes need a flatter base than standard paint: skim coat, sand smooth, apply quartz primer. Without that preparation the texture highlights rather than hides imperfections. Our consultants can advise on application technique for any specific product.

Concrete effect (micro-concrete decorative) and venetian stucco in neutral grey-beige tones are the top choices for modern minimalist spaces. Concrete effect is matte and flat - achievable DIY with some practice. Venetian in neutral tones adds subtle light reflection without being showy.

It needs more practice than standard paint - 2-3 thin layers with a steel trowel and polishing at the end. Results differ noticeably from a professional finish on first attempts. Structured plaster and concrete effect are more forgiving for DIY: the texture naturally absorbs minor application errors.

The surface must be smooth, fully skim-coated and primed. Decorative plasters do not hide irregularities - they amplify them. Before application: finishing skim coat, sand to zero imperfections, apply quartz primer. Skipping prep wastes the decorative product.

Yes, if the existing paint is firmly bonded, smooth and degreased. Apply a quartz primer coat and let it dry fully. If the paint is peeling or unstable - strip it first. Venetian stucco should never be applied to a surface with adhesion issues.

Quality decorative finishes from Caparol or Sadolin last 10-15 years on interior walls with no maintenance. Exterior structured plasters hold up 7-10 years with proper substrate preparation. Venetian stucco is an interior-only product - thin layers do not withstand Moldovan freeze-thaw cycles.

The Caparol and Sadolin ranges offer hundreds of shades through their tinting service. Pick from standard colour cards or specify a RAL/NCS code. Decorative plasters with metallic pigments (gold, silver, bronze) come pre-mixed - they can't be tinted, so you choose from the existing range.

Venetian stucco and concrete effect: 1-1.5 kg/m², so 15-25 kg for 15 m². Coarse structured plaster: 2-3 kg/m², meaning 30-45 kg. Consumption varies significantly by brand and technique - always check coverage on the specific product label.
