Metal or PVC corner beads? Metal is stiffer, more impact-resistant, but needs protective paint on exterior. PVC doesn't rust, is more flexible, easier to cut. In wet rooms and on facades with high moisture - PVC wins on long-term performance. In dry interiors either works.
Reinforcing tape at plaster or filler joints isn't optional - it's what stops cracks forming after the first thermal cycle. In Chisinau blocks where walls move with temperature, taping joints is 30 extra minutes of work that prevents a full redo after the first winter.
Metal for dry interiors where impact resistance matters. PVC for wet areas (bathroom, exterior corners, facades) where rust is the problem. PVC doesn't need protective paint.
Fibreglass or PVC reinforcing tape is compatible with standard gypsum and cement-based fillers. Check manufacturer specs when working with specialist mortars.
The bead flange width should be at least equal to the plaster layer thickness. For 10-15mm plaster, 100mm flange beads are standard. Confirm your layer thickness before buying.
At substrate changes (concrete-brick, old-new) and over large surface areas - yes. They let the surface move with temperature without cracking.
