Wood varnish and lacquer for parquet, furniture and outdoor use - Chisinau
Renovating a wooden floor or finishing furniture in Chisinau? Getting the right lacquer matters more than most people think.
Wood lacquers split into three types by formula. Water-based acrylic lacquers dry in 2-4 hours, have minimal odour and work well for furniture and lightly-trafficked parquet - bedrooms, living rooms. Alkyd lacquers dry slower (12-24 hours) but form a harder film that handles moisture and abrasion better - the right pick for hallways, kitchens and outdoor wood. Two-component lacquers (lacquer plus hardener) deliver the toughest finish - used on heavily-trafficked floors and commercial spaces.
Finish matters too. Matte hides dust and small scratches. Satin gives a natural wood look and stays popular for residential parquet. Gloss suits classic furniture and decorative surfaces.
Colorista.md carries Vidaron (strong outdoor range with UV protection) and Sadolin (well-regarded for interior parquet). Before any lacquering job: sand the surface, clean off dust, apply one coat of wood primer. Skip that step and you'll use 50% more lacquer on an uneven finish. Delivery to Chisinau takes 1-3 working days.
A 2-3 coat water-based satin lacquer works well for medium-traffic living rooms and bedrooms. Sadolin TC Extra or Vidaron interior lacquer are solid choices. For hallways or kitchens with heavier foot traffic, switch to alkyd or two-component lacquer for better scratch resistance.
Water-based: dries in 2-4 hours, low odour, easy to clean tools. Good for furniture and standard parquet. Alkyd: dries in 12-24 hours but the final film is harder and more moisture-resistant - preferred for high-traffic floors and outdoor wood.
At 10-12 m²/L and two coats, budget 5-6 litres. Add 10% for corners and waste. A 5L can typically covers 25-30 m² in two thin coats - always verify the specific product's coverage on the label.
If the existing lacquer is firmly bonded - yes. Sand lightly with 220 grit, degrease and apply the new coat. If the old finish is peeling or cracking, strip it fully. Do not apply water-based lacquer over alkyd without an isolation coat - adhesion will fail.
You need a lacquer with UV protection and flexibility for temperature swings. Vidaron Lakier do Drewna Zewnetrznego and Sadolin Classic are both proven outdoors. Apply 3 coats and reapply every 2-3 years, especially on south-facing surfaces.
Water-based acrylic: 2-4 hours at 20°C. Alkyd: 12-24 hours. Two-component: 6-12 hours depending on hardener ratio. In cold or humid rooms, add 50% to drying times. Do not walk on lacquered parquet for at least 48 hours after the final coat.
