Specialty paints - heat-resistant, anti-mould, luminescent, reflective

Regular paint on the flue pipe? It burns off after the first fire of winter. Not a product defect - wrong product on the wrong surface.

Specialty paints cover the cases where standard products fall short. Each type solves a specific problem.

Heat-resistant (200-600°C) - for stoves, metal flues, exhaust pipes. Contain silicate or silicone that does not burn and does not lose adhesion under heat. Apply directly to clean metal without a standard primer - use a dedicated heat-resistant primer on new or rusty surfaces.

Anti-mould and antibacterial - for bathrooms without good ventilation, basements, walls with condensation. Additives with silver ions or biocide reduce bacterial growth on the surface. Effect lasts 5-7 years under normal conditions. Does not replace ventilation but extends the maintenance interval.

Anti-graffiti - for public facades, fences, pillars. Creates a layer that aerosol paint cannot bond to - wipes off with water or a mild solvent. Permanent and sacrificial variants available (sacrificial layer is removed together with the graffiti).

Luminescent and reflective - for safety signs, evacuation stairs, road markings. Absorb light and glow in the dark, or reflect headlight beams.

Zinc and galvanised metal - cannot be painted directly with standard exterior paint. Needs wash primer or 2K epoxy as an adhesion layer first, otherwise it peels within the first year.

The right choice starts with the surface and the conditions it faces, not the price. Colorista stocks products for each of these cases.

Specialty paints solve cases that regular products cannot: heat resistance (stoves, flues), antibacterial properties (hospitals, kindergartens), chalkboard finish, phosphorescent or reflective effects. Pick by the specific surface problem you need to solve.

Heat-resistant paints contain silicate or silicone and withstand 200-600°C without burning or losing adhesion. They are required on stoves, metal flues and exhaust pipes. Apply directly to clean metal without a standard primer - use a dedicated heat-resistant primer.

It helps but does not replace good ventilation. Paints with silver ions or anti-mould additives cut bacterial growth on walls by 99%. The effect lasts 5-7 years in normal conditions, less in a bathroom without an extractor fan.

Reflective road paint lasts 1-2 seasons under heavy traffic, 3-5 years on vertical signs. Below 0°C or on wet asphalt it applies poorly - pick dry weather above +10°C.

Not directly. Zinc and galvanised metal have an oxide layer that prevents standard paints from sticking. Use a dedicated zinc primer (wash primer or 2K epoxy) first, then your exterior paint. Otherwise it will peel within the first year.
